Nose Agata Karolina travels the world in search of exceptional, little-known materials. Not sourced, but found — in landscapes, in encounters, in the specific conditions of a place that make a material and its feeling, what it is.
She immerses herself before she works with it: understanding not just how something smells, but what it feels like to stand where it grows. Fuelled by provenance in her personal approach to all things in life, immersing herself, and her nose, first-hand, into every location and material she works with, she creates a deeply nuanced and multilayered expression of place.
Each perfume, each fragrance continues to take you on an ongoing adventure through smell, celebrating every aspect of the very places, experiences and memories which inspired them.
Back in the atelier sits Odette, the Maison’s perfume organ, custom-designed by Agata Karolina herself. Each aspect of the organ has been curated to the style in which Agata works when creating each perfume. Her shelves are lined with hundreds of ingredients, from the world’s finest raw materials and essential oils to in-house-created absolutes and unique extractions developed by her team from wild-foraged and rare materials.
Agata’s particular fascination lies with the botanical wealth of Africa’s southern tip — unfamiliar terrain, rarely explored by perfumery. These materials are worked into unexpected combinations alongside others gathered on her travels elsewhere in the world, each fragrance carrying more than one point of origin. The result is not a scent that reminds you of a place. It is experiencing the place itself, in fragrance.
The provenance of her materials is of the highest value. Each fragrance is built around a single, rare find. Sometimes that material is captured directly. Sometimes, when nature makes harvesting impossible, it is reconstructed with total fidelity — every facet studied and rebuilt until nothing of the original character is lost. The material becomes the foundation of the fragrance; the place and feeling become its story.
Over the past 16 years she has travelled the world, near and far, to understand the true nature of the ingredients she works with, bringing a truly unique perspective of harmony between the finest raw materials, essential oils, absolutes and extracts. “It has been the capacity for nature to orchestrate the most interesting and transitional experiences of smell — those which never stay in one place, constantly on the move, forever changing and returning, which has inspired my method and signature across the GOZDAVA 1590 range.”

The very lifeblood of GOZDAVA 1590 — each perfume and fragrance is an invitation to travel. The blends are created as living entities; they move, sway with the wind, traverse time, space and memory, connecting with our emotions and taking us places we may never have planned or can’t stop going back to.
Each journey begins with an invitation — whether it’s wandering among giant Fever Trees in the Pafuri Triangle or cavorting at Praiano’s coastline, each transports you to places unexpected. GOZDAVA is not a continuation of an old perfume house. It is a continuation of a family name. 1590 marks the earliest documented chapter of the Gozdava lineage — a history spanning more than four centuries, built on dedication, service and excellence.
The House itself is contemporary; the values behind it are not. Every fragrance is an extension of that legacy: a commitment to lasting quality, and a respect for the places and people that make each one possible.
Each year we release six calendar spots for custom creations with clients in both the business-to-business and personal scent creation space.
